When we read chapters 3 and 4 of Hebrews we see that there is a close relationship between Christ, the church, and finding rest.
In Hebrews 3:6 we are told that we, the believers, are the house of God. Then in verse 14 it says that we have become partakers of Christ. If we unite both verses we have that, by virtue of being of Christ, we are the church. Therefore, in chapter 3 of Hebrews we have the reality of having Christ and the reality of being the church.
But then, the Spirit makes several warnings in verses 6 and 14, by means of two similar statements. One in relation to the house and the other in relation to Christ. We are the church, “if indeed we hold fast our confidence” and partake of Christ. The second statement says, “if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end.” Both warnings lead us to the nececisity of holding on to our confidence and to retain that which we have received.
We need to remain in the field of faith regarding these things. Israel sinned in the desert because they did not believe due to their hardened hearts. And because they did not believe, God became indignant with them and did not allow them to enter into his rest.
In the same way, we may not enter into his rest if we do not hold on to the things we have received; the reality to be of Chirst and the reality to be the church.
To enter into His rest means to rest in the work of God that is in our favor. God has done something in Christ for us, therfore, God presents Christ to us, and we need to contemplate and delight in Him. Christ has built us as His church (He said: "I will build my church"), and we should contemplate his marvelous building with us.
We find rest when we see that God has made us parktakers of Christ and when Christ builds us as His house. Not only the first, but the second one as well. Nothing speaks us better than rest than a house. In our house, our heart truly rests.
Thus also with our soul, it only finds stillness and rest when we have found the house of God. Not every congregation of believers is part of the house of God. How do we know? In Hebrews we find the example of Moses, that he was faithful in all the house of God (3:2). He abstained to propose his ideas, and simply he continued with the features of God to raise the tabernacle. Not every congregation is part of the house of God, because not all obey the model had Gas given. When we find the house according to God, then we find rest. Rest is the best sign that we have found the Lord and to his house.
